Women in DairyWomen comprise 70% of the workforce and 35% of cooperative members. Over 48,000 women-led dairy cooperatives operate at the village level, promoting economic empowerment.
Dairy CooperativesNetwork includes 22 state-level federations, 241 district unions, 28 marketing dairies, and 25 Milk Producer Organisations (MPOs). Connects 2.35 lakh villages and 1.72 crore dairy farmers.
Key Schemes- Rashtriya Gokul Mission: Focuses on indigenous cattle breeding, with a total outlay of ₹3400 crore. - Artificial Insemination (AI): Used for 33% of breedable bovines, with 14.12 crore AIs conducted. - MAITRIs: Over 38,700 trained technicians provide breeding services. - White Revolution 2.0: Aims to increase milk procurement, form 75,000 new cooperatives, and promote sustainability.
Technological Interventions- IVF & Sex-Sorted Semen: 22 IVF labs established and 10.32 million doses of sex-sorted semen produced. - Progeny Testing: 3,747 bulls tested between 2021-2024. - Breed Multiplication Farms: 132 farms set up.
Global PositionIndia ranks #1 globally in milk production, contributing 25% of the world's supply.
Economic ContributionDairy contributes 5% to India's GDP and supports 8 crore+ farmers, mostly small and marginal landholders.
