Child Marriage (Global Context)- UNICEF categorizes it as a human rights violation - SDG 5.3 aims to eliminate it by 2030 - 1 in 5 young women (19%) married in childhood (UN, 2022)
Legal Framework (India)- Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (2006) - Legal marriage age: 21 (men), 18 (women) - Section 16: Allows states to appoint Child Marriage Prohibition Officers (CMPOs) for enforcement, awareness, and counselling
