Why in the news?Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Nijut Moina scheme to fight child marriage through financial aid for girls pursuing higher education.
Main Objectives- Increase higher education enrollment among girls. - Reduce dropout rates. - Increase girls educated beyond matriculation. - Eliminate child marriage.
Financial Assistance- Higher Secondary: ₹1,000/month (Max ₹10,000/year). - Graduation: ₹1,250/month (Max ₹12,500/year). - Post-Graduation: ₹2,500/month (Max ₹25,000/year).
Payment ModeDirect Bank Transfer (DBT).
Disbursement Schedule11th of every month.
Target GroupGirls enrolled in government and venture educational institutions at Higher Secondary, Graduation, and Post-Graduation first year.
Exclusions- Daughters of ministers, MPs, MLAs. - No payments during summer or extended vacations.
ScopeAims to cover 10 lakh girl students with a budget of ₹1,500 crore.
