Family Zingiberaceae- 21 types and 200 taxa in India.- Curcuma is the most famous and largest plant in this family in India (e.g., turmeric, black turmeric, mango ginger).
Distribution- India: Northeast, Southern states, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.- Globally: South Asia, Southeast Asia, South China, northern Australia, and the South Pacific.
UniquenessAttractive inflorescence makes it a potential cut flower and ornamental plant for gardens after domestication.
General Information- Flowering: August to October (rainy season).- Flowers open in the morning and last one day.- Faces threats from road development, construction, and natural calamities.
