Why in News?International Development Week (IDW) 2025 will be observed from February 2nd to February 8th, highlighting Canada's contributions to global development.
OrganizerCanadian International Development Agency (CIDA), in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada and various stakeholders.
History & Establishment- Initiated in 1990 by CIDA, which was established in 1968 to manage Canada's official development assistance (ODA).
- The first official celebration took place in 1998.
- Focuses on poverty reduction, gender equality, education, health, and climate action.
Theme for 2025Yet to be announced, but expected to align with the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Sub-Themes for 20251. Gender Equality - Promoting equal opportunities and rights for all genders.
2. Education - Ensuring access to quality education for all.
3. Health - Improving global health outcomes and access to healthcare.
4. Economic Resilience - Building sustainable and inclusive economies.
5. Climate Action - Addressing environmental sustainability.
Significance- Celebrates Canada's contributions to humanitarian and development efforts worldwide.
- Aims to engage Canadians in global development initiatives.
