Cabinet clears PRITHVI initiative for ease of research in earth sciences
- The government recently granted approval for a new initiative named 'PRITHVI’.
'PRITHVI’ Initiative
- It allows for cross-disciplinary projects and combined utilization of funds within the Ministry of Earth Sciences allocated for separate verticals over a five-year period.
- Unlike traditional verticals, such as atmosphere, cryosphere, geosphere and ocean science.
- Objective: To streamline earth sciences research, promote cross-disciplinary projects, and enhance the ease of conducting research.
- It treats earth system sciences as a unified entity.
- The ministry holds a budget of Rs 4,797 crore, encompassing allocations for five distinct sub-schemes related to earth sciences.

- Atmosphere and Climate Research-Modelling Observing Systems and Services
- Ocean Services, Modelling Application, Resources and Technology
- Polar Science and Cryosphere Research
- Seismology and Geosciences
- Research, Education, Training and Outreach
- It also enables the Ministry of Earth Sciences to collaborate with overseas institutes by awarding research projects to them.
