Global MPI Overview- 1.1 billion people live in acute multidimensional poverty.
- 455 million reside in conflict-affected regions.
Child Poverty- 584 million children under 18 live in poverty (27.9% of children).
- 13.5% of adults live in poverty.
Basic Needs- 828 million lack adequate sanitation.
- 886 million lack proper housing.
- 998 million lack cooking fuel.
Nutrition- 637 million live in households with at least one undernourished person.
- South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa are significantly affected.
South Asian Countries MPI- India: 0.105 MPI value, 234 million (23.8% incidence).
- Pakistan: 0.198 MPI value, 93 million (38.3% incidence).
- Nepal: 0.092 MPI value, 7.5 million (22.5% incidence).
- Bangladesh: 0.104 MPI value, 41.7 million (24.6% incidence).
Conflict Impact- 25% of poor in conflict areas lack access to electricity.
- Child education deprivation: 17.7% in conflict vs. 4.4% in stable areas.
- Nutrition deprivation: 20.8% in conflict vs. 7.2% in peaceful regions.
Slow Progress- Afghanistan: 64.9% impoverished in 2022/23, up from 2015/16.
- 5.3 million more people fell into poverty from 2015/16 to 2022/23.
Global Trends- MPI has identified vulnerable populations since 2010.
